Sprint Distance Championships, Saturday 16 May

The Sprint Distance will be staged at the Bruce Campus of the Canberra Institute of Technology, Haydon Drive, Bruce, about 8 kms west of the GPO Canberra. It is a new venue for Sprint Distance Orienteering, but the area is on the Belconnen Bushlands 1:15000 map and the Bruce Ridge 1:10000 map, although few controls were ever placed in the area. The competition area will be mainly the Bruce campus of CIT, which is predominantly buildings, pathways, roads, car parks and associated vegetation, with some controls south of the campus in eucalyptus forest. The new map at 1:5000 will be produced by Grant Bluett.

The National League competitors will start at one minute intervals from 9.00 am. The Junior League competitors will start first and the Senior League competitors will start after the last Junior competitor. All other age classes will begin starting at one minute intervals two minutes after the last National League competitor.

Middle Distance Championships, Saturday 16 May

The Middle Distance Championships will be staged at Wild Deer Sands, Kings Highway, about 50 kms east of Canberra (and about 60 kms from Bruce CIT. The area has been used once, on 2008 QBIII Day 1; thus a blank map will be on display on the day. It is an area between two regularly used areas, The Sandhills and Timber Tops. It had not been used for decades, as it had been used for sandmining. Photos of the area.

The National League competitors will start at two minute intervals from 1.30 pm. All other age classes will begin starting at two minute intervals two minutes from 2.00 pm.

Long Distance Championships, Sunday 17 May

The Middle Distance Championships will be staged at Gearys Gap, Federal Highway, about 50 kms north of Canberra. The area, which has never been used for orienteering, is relatively fast spur-gully terrain with steeper areas in the west. There are many termite mounds and areas of small rock. Photos of the area.

The first start for all competitors will be 10.00 am.
