Races 1-4 of the Melbourne Sprint Weekend were the first round of the 2020 Wildfire Sports National Orienteering League.
Frederic Tranchand (Victoria) leads senior men with team mate Aston Key being the best local. Bridget Uppill is defending last year’s senior women’s title well with a 6 point lead over Tash Key. Alastair George (NSW Stingers) and Ella Cuthbert (Canberra Cockatoos) are leading the junior categories.
The teams categories were made interesting by the mixed sprint relay which counted for double points. A mis-punch and disqualification by Victoria gave the lead in both senior categories to the Canberra Cockatoos. SA Arrows lead both junior categories, just reward for a well organised junior program. NSW Stingers and Canberra Cockatoos are close behind so this should be a good competition for the season.
