MTBO Update – Re World Championships & National Squad

Formal notice that OA will NOT be sending a team to the 2021 WORLD MTBO Championships.

(The 2021 WOC & JWOC MTBO World Champs are scheduled to be held in Finland from 8th June.)

This decision came about after consultation with state MTBO representatives and was then endorsed by the OA Board.

Reasons being that it is extremely unlikely that we could participate as:

  • Probable that riders will not be vaccinated by that time, given their age.
  • Availability & cost of flights, especially on return.
  • Probability of having to endure and pay for 2 weeks quarantine on return.
  • Safety aspect of travelling to Europe where Covid 19 is still quite rampant …Finland, on March 21 had an average daily covid case number of 690 people.

However the MTBO selection committee will consider any overseas based riders who would like to nominate for WOC/Jwoc.  Anyone nominating would have to show competitive performances in overseas based events in the March to mid May period.  Nominations to: kayhaarsma@hotmail by April 3rd.

Riders who intend to train towards the 2022 MTBO WOC/JWOC teams should nominate for the National Squad.

Send name; birthdate; email; phone numbers; postal address & probable National Series events you intend to participate, to – the National MTBO Coordinator – by April 13th.

There is likely to be some subsidy for national squad riders to attend training days/camps associated with some National Series events.   Similarly it is hopeful to hold a training camp in NZ later in the year or early in 2022.
