Forest JWOC 2022 Women – call for nominations.
Following the cancellation of the forest races at JWOC 2022 in Portugal in July, the IOF has announced that the forest races will now be held on November 4-6, 2022. Bulletin 3.5 can be downloaded here.
Orienteering Australia has decided to send a team of up to 4 men and 4 women to compete in the three forest disciplines – long, middle and relay. Places in this team were offered to those selected for the competition in July. As a result, all four men’s places and two women’s places have been filled. A manager/coach, Brett Weihart, will travel with the team.
We are now calling for nominations for up to two additional women. Any Australian junior female is eligible to nominate, including those currently based overseas.
Athletes should only nominate if they are able to commit to travelling to Portugal on the specified dates.
Selection races:
For Australian-based athletes, selectors will consider all national level forest races from 2022, including Easter 2022 and the upcoming Australian middle distance and long distance championship races. For overseas-based athletes, selectors will consider any relevant national and international competitions from the 2022 orienteering season (e.g. national championships, European championships, etc.) Selectors reserve the right not to select any athletes if no nominations are of a sufficiently high standard.
Selectors: Natasha Key (Head Coach), Warren Key, Brett Weihart, Bridget Anderson, Cathy McComb, Fredrik Johansson (Chair)
Note that there will be no training camp, so athletes should arrive ready to compete! Official accommodation is from Wednesday the 2nd – Monday the 7th of November. While it is anticipated that some of the costs of accommodation will be paid by OA, athletes may need to make a contribution to costs in addition to their airfares.
Nominations are via the online form here.
