Recent Performances: Oceania Sprint Champion 2015 Tasmania Interesting Facts: Started running with Ashgrove Rangers Athletics Club History in Orienteering: Entry into orienteering as sprint specialist from a cross country background World Orienteering Championships: Sprint Relay, Sun 2nd August – Sprint Friday 31st July- A relative late starter to the sport in 2006, Rachel has adapted quickly from a cross country running background to orienteering, achieving national selection in the JWOC team in 2007. Since then, she has represented Australia at JWOC in Sweden in 2008, then in the WOC teams in 2011 France, 2012 Switzerland and 2014 Italy. Rachel has a preference for the sprint format, and has managed in recent years to perfect preparations for international performances in this format, despite being isolated from quality orienteering competitions whilst living in Cairns and Townsville. Rachel has many outstanding national performances in long and middles distance races, notably winning a tough Easter long in 2012. She is a pressure performer, and is often asked to race with little preparation, knowing endurance fitness is a strength. Rachel’s 2013 NZ World Cup performance of 21st place in the Sprint have been followed up with premier results in the 2015 World cup in Tasmania; Sprint Qual – 9th, Sprint Final – 14th (Best of the Australians) – Oceania Sprint Champion.
