2023 Orienteering Australia Athlete of the Year – Brodie Nankervis (TAS)

Orienteering Australia congratulates Brodie Nankervis, our 2023 Athlete of the Year. Brodie competes for the Tassie Foresters in our National Orienteering League, doubling as their team manager and represented Australia at the 2023 World Championships in Flims-Laax, Switzerland.

Brodie’s 2023 year commenced with the Oceania Championships in Tasmania, taking 3rd in the Sprint Distance, 3rd in the Middle Distance, 2nd in the Long Distance, and was a member of the winning Relay team. He was 2nd overall at the Easter 3-Days in the ACT. Brodie was 2nd overall in the 2023 National Orienteering League supported by Wildfire Sport and Trek, winning 2 races and placing in a further 6 of the 12 races that made up the 2023 competition.

At the 2023 World Championships, Brodie’s 34th was the best Australian individual result in the Long Distance and at the World Championships.

Not only does Brodie successfully compete as an Elite orienteer, he is busy working for Orienteering Australia. He is the Participation Manager, Coaching Development Manager, the acting OA Australian Schools Orienteering Championships coordinator, Chair of the High Performance and Coaching Committee and a member of the High Performance Management Group.

With a strong team for the mixed sprint relay at the British Sprint Orienteering Championships, the team finished 4th overall.
