Programs designed to take students from a beginner’s course to representing their state.

About our program

Orienteering is a fun and unique sport where competitors use a map to navigate from one point to the next around a course, punching the checkpoints to as they go, and trying to finish in the fastest time.

Orienteering Australia offers a range of programs for schools that are designed to take students from a beginner’s course around the school grounds to a more advanced course around a park or bushland setting. Our goal is for students to be able to compete in one of the states  ‘schools championship’ events and earn points for their school team which are held throughout the year in most states.

The purpose of our schools program is for students to become familiar with orienteering as a fun challenging sport. Those with more enthusiasm may want to join a state squad and seek to be selected for a state team to attend the Australia Schools Orienteering Carnival.

Sporting Schools

Sporting Schools is Australia’s largest school-based sports participation program to help children foster a lifelong interest in sport.

It is a funded sport program provided by the Australian Sports Commission. Funding for orienteering programs is available to primary schools across Australia with funding provided directly to schools from the ASC.

Orienteering Australia is an active supporter of Sporting Schools with programs across the country.
