Bushrangers Results and Recap

Australian Bushrangers visit NZ for an exciting orienteering weekend!

This past weekend, our Australian Bushrangers Team ventured to the stunning Golden Bay area, at the northern tip of the South Island of NZ, for some thrilling and challenging orienteering. The unique terrain provided an incredible experience, unlike anything we’ve encountered at home.

Top Results:

  • Sophie Taverna: 3rd in both Long and Sprint events

  • Liana Stubbs: 4th in both Long and Sprint events

  • Duncan Currie: 4th in the Sprint event

Middle Distance Event:

Held at Canaan Downs, Sophie Taverna shared her experience: “Middle distance was held on the Canaan Downs South map, a section of land within the Abel Tasman National Park… Overall the terrain for this event was a mixture of spur gully and negative (depressions and sunken ground) with rocks, with the vegetation being open and runnable especially within the beech forests… Favourite part of this event was running in the beech forests as they were lush and soft underfoot and some of the gorgeous locations of the control sites.”

Long Distance Event:

Held at Kaihoka Lakes, Nick Stanley (M20E) reported: “Day 2 was an exceptional course, with a stunning map and scenery… The course was set in cow and sheep paddocks and went initially through steep hills with large limestone rock features requiring careful navigation… The course, following a roughly 100m drop in elevation, delved into technical sand dunes before the climb up Mt Lunar… Each part of this course was scenic and every part of it was purposeful.”

The Bushrangers thoroughly enjoyed the adventure, the scenic landscapes, and the unique challenges of the NZ terrain!
