In a largely European based international sport, Australia has achieved success in International Orienteering Federation (IOF) World Championships, Junior World Championships, World Cup and World Mountain Bike Orienteering Championships.

Australian orienteering has been sending teams to international competitions since the early days of Australian orienteering. Our first World Orienteering Championships team was in 1973 with Rod Dominish (NSW) as the sole Australian representative in Stare Splavy – Czechoslovakia.
Our first Junior World Orienteering Championships team was in 1990. This was at the first Junior World Championships in Alvsbyn -Sweden.
Our first World Mountain Bike Orienteering Championships team was in 2002. This was at the first World Mountain Bike Orienteering Championships in Fontainebleau – France.
World Orienteering Championships – Missing the names of all Team Officials from the 1974, 1976, 1978, 1979, 1981, 1983, 1987, 1989, and 1991 World Championships.
Junior World Orienteering Championships – Missing some results of Middle Distance from the 2002, 2003, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 Junior World Championships, and the names of all Team Officials from the 1990, 1991, and 1992 Junior World Championships.
