Support Orienteering Australia’s National Teams

Tax deductible gifts may be made to Orienteering Australia through the Australian Sports Foundation (ASF) to support our Mountain Bike, senior and junior national teams to take part in World Championships.

NATIONAL MOUNTAIN BIKE ORIENTEERING TEAM

An Australian team competes in the annual World Mountain Bike Orienteering Championships, which comprises both elite and junior (Under 21 years) categories. Only riders of a high level are selected so team size varies from year to year and some riders can’t afford to race every year.

MTBO competitors face more costs than foot orienteers, such as extra transport costs in additional baggage for flights and extra van or truck hire to transport bikes around for the 2 weeks overseas. Additionally it is necessary for riders to take out specific insurance to cover bike racing whilst overseas, which isn’t covered by travel insurance. Whilst Orienteering Australia meets the costs of coach/manager support and entry fees the majority of the costs for the two weeks overseas (one week of training and one week of actual championships); uniform costs and the actual airfares are paid by team members.

NATIONAL SENIOR ORIENTEERING TEAM

Australian teams comprising elite male and female competitors will participate in the 2024 World Orienteering Championships in Edinburgh, the World Cup and the World Games. Whilst Orienteering Australia meets the costs of coach support and entry fees, donations will be used to assist team members cover accommodation and living expenses for the time spent overseas, uniform costs and airfares.

NATIONAL JUNIOR ORIENTEERING TEAM

An Australian team comprised of males and females under 21 are selected to compete in the annual Junior World Orienteering Championships. Whilst Orienteering Australia meets the costs of coaches and entry fees, donations will be used to assist team members cover accommodation and living costs while overseas, uniform costs and airfares to and from the championships.

To those who have already donated to any or all of the national orienteering teams, thank you for your contribution to help these teams take part in championship opportunities.

Further information is also available from the Orienteering Australia General Manager.
