What is KID-O

KID-O gives our youngest orienteers fun, structured opportunities to explore, learn and build the foundation for lifelong participation in orienteering.

  • KID-O is a games based orienteering program for children aged 0-7. This is the pre-independent orienteering age.
  • KID-O offers activities that encourage children to learn basic navigation skills and respect for the bush through orienteering games and nature play.

National Expansion

Orienteering Australia is excited to work with Bridget Uppill to develop KID-O into the national orienteering program for children.

KID-O for the community

The program, resources and facilitator training has been reviewed and updated. Online KID-O Facilitator training is available on the Orienteering Learning Centre. Orienteering Australia is supporting the expansion with $750 to orienteering centres to establish KID-O.

KID-O for schools and Early Learning Centres

The next phase of development will focus on refining the KID-O program to create KID-O packages for schools (Foundation – Year 2) and early learning centres (3-5 year olds). Pilots are happening at the end of 2025 and the packages will be ready for the start of 2026.
