3 Cheers for Orienteering Volunteers

This National Volunteer Week, Orienteering Australia proudly joins the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) in celebrating the dedicated individuals who make our sport possible.

From the city to the outback, volunteers connect Australia through sport. Let’s give 3 cheers to our sport volunteers and put them on the map today! volmap.gov.au

Volunteers are the backbone of orienteering, quietly and tirelessly supporting everything from local events to national championships. Whether it’s setting courses, mapping, organising events, coaching juniors, or simply lending a helping hand, these everyday heroes connect communities through sport in every corner of the country.

The ASC is calling on all Australians to give 3 Cheers for Volunteers and recognise the millions across the nation who help bring sport to life. As part of the national celebration, Australians are encouraged to nominate sport volunteers in their community and share the stories of those who make a real difference — stories like those of our own orienteering legends.

You can help celebrate our orienteering volunteers by visiting volmap.gov.au — an interactive map showcasing the faces behind the sport across Australia. Let’s shine a spotlight on those who have guided us through forests, urban parks and campuses. Go on, place ‘orienteering’ in the search bar to find their stories.

This week, let’s all take a moment to say thank you. Give 3 cheers to a sport volunteer in your life and help put their story on the map. Because volunteers are more than part of the team — they are the very heart of Australia’s sporting story.
