King’s Birthday Hobbit Tour

Ready for an adventure? 🥾🌲🇳🇿

Make 2026 your first overseas orienteering tour and explore the magical forests of New Zealand!

If you’re 14–18 years old, this is your chance to join an epic group trip and compete in the King’s Birthday Orienteering Events: 29 May – 1 June 2026

29 May – Friday Travel day. Rendezvous Auckland (time TBC)

30 May – Saturday – Day 1 Woodhill Forest Sth – Middle 10am start

31 May – Sunday – Day 2 Woodhill Forest Nth – Long 10am start

1 June – Monday – Day 3 Avondale College, Auckland Sprint 10-11.30am, return to Australia afternoon Day 3.

The Hobbit Tour 2026 is taking us to some of the best terrain money can buy – WOODHILL on the North Island of NZ.

One flight, easy access, easy meet up and no more than 2 days off school.

It’s tough and technical, world class terrain with intricate contour detail between flatter featureless areas. It’s challenging but really rewarding!

But there’s more!

Each year the NZ KB Tour works hard to ensure social connections are made not just with other Aussies, but with our NZ compatriots, whether it be coaching and trivia get togethers, or shared accommodation.

This year we are teaming up with the South Island troupe of orienteers. Staying in shared, affordable and basic accommodation at Houghton’s Beach, this will allow plenty of opportunity for learn and play!

Early flight purchases make for an inexpensive trip!

Interested?

Any junior with their sights on future high performance should consider taking part in this tour. For those for whom high performance does not float their boat, the simple joy of tackling a serious terrain test, then this is for you as well!!

There are no selection requirements! If you are keen and committed we will find a place for you on this tour!
