With the World Orienteering Championships (WOC) Sprint events fast approaching in Italy, this update highlights the Sprint Distance rankings for Elite orienteers.
Australia’s top five ranked women in sprint orienteering — Caitlin Young, Milla Key, Nea Shingler, Zoe Carter and Erika Enderby — will all be representing Australia at WOC. With only a small number of ranking points separating the group, the battle for international success in Italy is matched by the contest for the number one position on the national sprint rankings.
In the men’s rankings, junior athlete Elye Dent joins Australia’s top-ranked sprint competitors, led by Henry McNulty, Aston Key and Cooper Horley, as part of the Australian team heading to WOC.
Prior to WOC, we also have the Junior World Orienteering Championships (JWOC) in Sweden later this month. As JWOC features both forest and sprint disciplines, we have included the overall junior rankings leaderboards in this update. Fittingly, the current top six ranked athletes in both the Junior Men and Junior Women categories will all be competing on the world stage at JWOC.
Congratulations to all athletes on their performances and rankings, and best wishes to the Australian teams competing at WOC and JWOC.
Ranking event major participation milestones (achieved in the last 3 months) are awarded to Jim Russell (350 Elite ranking races), Craig Dufty (300), Henry McNulty (150), Toby Wilson (150), Ewan Shingler (100) and Erika Enderby (the first junior to compete in 100 Junior Elite ranking races).
