Orienteering Australia (OA) is very pleased to advise Toni Brown (ACT) has been appointed as the OA Australian Schools Orienteering Championships (ASOC) Coordinator. The role of the ASOC Coordinator is to support the local organising committee conduct ASOC, our most important annual junior focused event. We also thank Brodie Nankervis for his work as ASOC Coordinator.

Toni came to orienteering in around 2004, walking short courses with her 3rd child Noah, then 3.

In 2006, Toni’s older 2 children, Oliver (then 12) and Luke (then 15), were selected to represent ACT at ASOC, then began Toni’s long association with ASOC.

All 3 of Toni’s children have represented ACT at ASOC (2006 – 2018). All 3 went on to represent Australia at JWOC (Oliver and Noah in foot orienteering, Luke MTBO).

Supported by a Women in Sports Leadership award in 2014, Toni attended the Oringen Academy in Sweden, to further her understanding.

Following this Toni’s passion was truly ignited.

In 2015 Toni set up a Primary School participation series known in Canberra as SC-ore! School Orienteering – a relay for Primary School aged kids modelled on the Sprint relay format (2 girls,2 boys).

This program continues and regularly attracts 100+ kids to its Spring and Autumn events.

Toni coached ACT’s Junior Blue Lightning Squad from 2016-2018.

Since 2016 Toni has been a lead agent facilitating a development camp alongside the Australian Championships Carnival.

Toni considers ASOC as a terrific steppingstone for young athletes on their development journey, whether they are in the state selected teams or competing as individuals.
