Join us on Tuesday 14th October 7:30pm (AEDT) to learn more about autism and how to make orienteering participation easier for people with autism.
The Autism Friendly team from Aspect works in partnership between Autistic and non-autistic people. Orienteering Australia has been lucky to collaborate with the team to review and improve how we create an orienteering environment that incorporates and assists people with autism. You will hear about the findings and get a sneak peak of the resources and initiatives we are developing.
The training will be conducted by Tess Healy (Consultant), and Jessica Novak (Autistic Consultant). We will provide an overview on Hidden Disabilities and some strategies that orienteers can use (and things orienteers are already doing) to help make the orienteering environment more Autism Friendly.
The training also provides a great opportunity for orienteers to hear first-hand from Autistic adults with both lived experience and professional expertise, as well as people experienced in working with, and supporting, Autistic people. Often this is the first time that you will have the opportunity to ask questions about what it’s like to be Autistic! We encourage conversation and questions, as long as they come from genuine curiosity.
